Biography & Background
Kent Uche started his career in the entertainment industry while
at Auchi Polytechnic studying for his HND in Economics in 1980 when
he established Fin Promotions. His first show was a big concert
at Stadium Hotel featuring the then pop superstar Kris Okotie (now
Senior Pastor of Household of God Fellowship) and Dizzy K Falola
(now a gospel music star) in 1985.
He was also the powerhouse behind the phenomenal rise of the Rub
a Dub master, Ras Kimono who he managed for 11 years between
1980 and 1991 before his wife Sybil started to manage him. During
his period with the reggae superstar he released his two biggest
hits, 'Under Pressure' and 'What's Gwan'. The two albums fetched
Ras Kimono more than eight Nigerian Music Awards including the prestigious
Artiste of the Year for two consecutive years.
In 1993 Kent Uche relocated to UK. He changed the face of the Nigeria/UK
scene in 1999 when he started the annual Nigeria's Independence
Musikal Splash. The debut edition, which sold out, featured King
Wasiu Ayinde Marshal 1, Wasiu Alabi (aka Pasuma Wonder), Juju
star Jide Chord and Chaka Chaka dancers from South Africa.
According to music critics, "that was the best show that has ever
taken place in the Nigeria/UK scene." Since then he has been moving
up the ladder of success and he is today the biggest promoter on
the scene. He has also promoted the gigs of Mr Fuji, Dr Sikiru Ayinde
Barrister; Bonsue Fuji King, Adewale Ayuba; Wale Thompson and Dele
Taiwo.
Apart from Godfather Promotions, he also runs Godfather Music,
which released Jide Chord's Brown Sugar and two CDs of Adewale Ayuba
- Turn Me On and Live in Europe.
